IPL Photofacial: Address Red or Sun-Damaged Skin with No Down Time
Is your skin starting to show your teenage recklessness when you “forgot” to apply sunscreen? Are you suffering from broken capillaries or rosacea? Do you want younger-looking skin?
An intense-pulsed light photofacial — known as IPL photofacial — is an easy, quick, non-invasive procedure that can provide excellent results in combating common signs of aging.
IPL treatments include application of a broadband light that does not damage the surface of the skin. The intense light affects the deeper skin, creating the results you want: a more youthful appearance not marred by redness or brown spots.

Is IPL Photofacial Right for You?
IPL photofacials are best known for their ability to restore a lustrous quality to sun-worn skin. But the procedure has other benefits, such as reduction of redness and increased collagen.
The treatments also address discoloration from medications, melasma, rosacea*, and enlarged pores.
The procedure isn’t for every skin type or problem, however. Some darker skin types or deeply tan skin may not achieve desired results through this procedure. Deep wrinkles or acne scars will require a different type of treatment.

The Procedure
Usually done over two to four treatments, the procedure utilizes light energy that gently heats the targeted skin areas and stimulates the body’s own natural healing process to remove blemishes, and helps seal broken capillaries. As the skin heals, the treated areas show a reduction of brown spots, sun damage, and redness.
The light energy penetrates deep below the skin’s surface to promote the production of new collagen. The treatment will enhance the skin’s appearance by rejuvenating and smoothing the skin in addition to improving brown spots and redness.
Each treatment lasts about 20 minutes, and most patients require about two to four treatments, scheduled about three to four weeks apart, to see maximum results.
Some patients report mild discomfort and a numbing gel is available during treatments.
After the Procedure
Immediately after each treatment, your face may feel like you have a slight sunburn. The sensation is temporary and will improve over a few hours.
There is no down time and you can return to work the next day. However, make sure you protect your skin from the sun for a few days following the treatment.
In the days and weeks following a treatment, your skin will gradually improve as brown spots and redness fade, and your face begins to glow.
To maintain results, make sure you apply a good, quality sunscreen daily. Talk to a specialist in our office on proper moisturizing and other techniques that can help maintain your new look.
*This procedure can be used to improve the redness associated with rosacea but it does not cure the Rosacea.
