Cheek Implants: Raising a Point of Emphasis
Strong cheekbones have been called the “scaffolding” of an attractive face. They can impart an angular look and make the setting for eyes, nose, and mouth more favorable. They can make a prominent chin appear more proportional. They reflect light and add symmetry.
Sometimes a person’s goals for appearance are simply more “high, wide, and handsome” than the facial structure they’re born with. In other cases, life and experience may have left one with cheeks that appear sunken or pinched and gaunt. Cheek implants are becoming a popular step toward the face we aspire to, even if that’s not the face we were born with.
More and more women are enhancing their cheekbones because of the profound positive effect it can have on the face as a whole.
Options Abound
Surgery, fillers, or injections are among the options people consider, and choosing the way that’s right for you is a good reason to get better acquainted with a board-certified facial plastic surgeon.
Using fillers or injections – such as Juvederm Ultra Plus XC and Restylane Lyft – for cheekbone enhancement has the advantage of being less invasive, but eventually they are reabsorbed. Women who choose this approach often opt for implants after a cycle or two of replacing the depleted filler.
Surgical implants, on the other hand, raise the cheekbone or refine its profile using inert surgical materials such as silicone. Advanced materials that integrate with the underlying bone and tissue are now available, too. The effect is sculpted with more control and the ultimate results are practically permanent, although implants can be refined further if desired. The incisions for cheek implants are often completely hidden from the surface of the face.
Three Approaches
Malar, submalar or combined shapes are evaluated to best enhance the unique assets of the face and respond to the goals of the patient. To raise the cheekbones, malar implants are sculpted and positioned to project a higher contour. Submalar implants are positioned in the mid-face to amend a sunken profile. When the goal is to improve the facial contour more comprehensively, combined malar and submalar implants can be applied.
Just One First Step
The advantages and options for enhancing your look – and your outlook – with cheekbone enhancement are abundant. But they need not be confusing or intimidating, not even for a moment. We welcome the opportunity to look with you to see what tomorrow might hold for you.
