Answering Some of the Most Difficult Challenges
The FDA approvals of Restylane Defyne and Restylane Refyne specifically covered the treatment of moderate to severe and even deep facial wrinkles and folds. These categories include the laugh lines (nasolabial folds) that run in deepening grooves from the sides of the nose toward the corners of the mouth. Despite the jolly name, laugh lines have proven difficult to address with the measures available previously.
Two randomized, active-controlled, double-blind Phase 3 studies evaluated the products’ safety and effectiveness. Both products showed meaningful improvement in the severity of wrinkles for up to 12 months in most patients.
How Restylane Defyne and Restylane Refyne Work
Laugh lines form when the skin loses two of its building blocks, collagen and elastin, with age. Heredity plays a role; if your parents, aunts, or uncles have laugh lines, then chances are the laugh lines will come to visit you, too, and they don’t get better by themselves. As with most premature aging, exposure to the sun, smoking, and weight fluctuations can increase your chances of developing laugh lines and the severity of them.
Restylane Defyne and Restylane Refyne are smooth hyaluronic acid (HA) gels. When injected expertly, they provide natural-looking results by offering a range of firmness, support or flexibility to meet each patient’s unique goals. A process of cross-linking the HA molecules has enabled Restylane to create this new range of answers for people who want to lose their laugh lines, or to make them less prominent.
